Asymmetrical, unconventional warfare has brought to light the deficiencies in the protection of smaller vehicles. DSM Dyneema, inventor and manufacturer of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibre (UHMwPE), is demonstrating its force multiplier technology at Eurosatory (Hall 6, Stand J373).
Opting for the Dyneema force multiplier technology, TenCate and Rheinmetall offered their helicopter and naval armour solutions respectively, to highlight the weight reduction of up to 25 per cent over traditional armour materials.
New operating environments, increased weight from electronics and extended fuel supply chains, drove light tactical interdiction vehicles to better fuel efficiency and range. This is where Dyneema proves the point. Much stronger than quality steel and up to 40 per cent stronger than aramid, UHMwPE as the world’s strongest fibre provides the solution. It floats on water and is durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals. It is therefore used in almost unlimited applications, including bullet-resistant armour and clothing for police and military forces.
