Making tracks (ES14E3)

18 June 2014

Canada’s Soucy Group offers a diverse portfolio of products, but in the defence world is best known for its track systems for armoured vehicles. Soucy Defense (Hall 5, Stand C900) manufactures a wide range of tracks, wheels and sprockets, working in metal, UHMW-PE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) and rubber.

Soucy claims its rubber track technology offers significant benefits, including greater durability and a 70 per cent reduction in vibration. The latter makes for a more comfortable ride and extends the service life of electronic and other delicate equipment. Rubber tracks decrease noise by 7dBA and fuel consumption by about 30 per cent, while braking distance is cut by a similar proportion. Weighing about half of a comparable steel track, the rubber units permit greater protection to be installed in the vehicle.
