Uniforms and insignia of rank have been associated with armed forces and law enforcement officers for centuries. Ten years ago, Stepahead Military Headwear of South Africa (Hall 6, Stand B591) stepped into that market with its high-quality military headwear and accoutrements.

Today, Stepahead’s manufacturing facility in Pretoria supplies its products to armed forces in the Middle East and Africa. Its staff of almost 80 includes 29 highly trained machinists and 12 specialist gold thread embroiderers.

“Quality is our pride and top priority,” says managing director Maureen Simoés. “Not only does Stepahead work on the very best wool, Melton cloth and gold wire, but we ensure absolute colour consistency with a state-of- the-art computerised colour density reader.” She affirms that Stepahead’s headwear and related military products comply with stringent international quality control tests.

The company’s military products include woollen berets, officers’ and ceremonial peak caps, badges and epaulettes, as well as webbing bags and equipment.
