27 May 2014

UK technology company QinetiQ will expand its OptaSense subsidiary through the acquisition of low noise semi-conductor laser manufacturer Redfern Integrated Optics (RIO).

In a statement on the acquisition released on 22 May, OptaSense Managing Director Magnus McEwen-King said the acquisition would support QinetiQ's expansion in the oil and gas sector.

"Their products are ideally suited to the distributed fibre sensing market, especially within the oil & gas sector where high performance and high reliability in harsh environments are essential," he said.

"We see demand for RIO's laser products continuing to grow across the whole fibre sensing market and look forward to supporting their existing customer base.
