26 May 2014

Global award program honors Finmeccanica’s Research Department for developing effective intelligence-led approach to drive aerospace and defense business profitability

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (May 27, 2014) – IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of information and insight, today congratulated Finmeccanica for its selection as a 2014 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award winner. This prestigious industry award program spotlights organizations and individuals around the world who make critical decisions and achieve their business goals through innovative use of information, analytics and expertise.

Finmeccanica Group is a €17.2 billion conglomerate that ranks as Europe’s largest defense systems provider, and is among the top 10 global players in the aerospace and defense industry. Partnering with IHS has helped Finmeccanica’s Research Department deliver business intelligence on market opportunities, customers, competitors and potential partners that has driven profitability in A&D, helping the entire company return to net profitability, and increased exports to 55% of total revenues.

“Finmeccanica has achieved enviable success in an unforgiving global market, and it’s clear that their approach to business intelligence has played a significant part in that success,” said Blake Bartlett, VP IHS Aerospace, Defense & Security, “We see their Research Department leading decision making that guides the business at strategic and tactical levels. It’s really exciting to partner with a business that is striving for excellence and doing innovative work with business information and insight.”

Finmeccania received their award at a celebration for all seven 2014 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award winners in Europe, which was held at the IHS Forum, focused on “Europe’s Global Competitiveness: Opportunities & Pathways,” in Berlin. Awards were presented during a dinner banquet on Tuesday, May 13.

Established in 2006, this popular IHS award program has recently expanded to honor achievements across a variety of workflows/disciplines including economics and country risk, environmental, health, safety and sustainability, pricing and purchasing, product design, supply chain and more.

“Dr Carlo Musso has built an exceptional internal think tank to direct Finmeccanica’s decision making,” continued Blake Bartlett, “Not only does his Research Department incorporate IHS information and insight into their research and analysis, but they also participate in IHS research projects. This truly partnership-oriented approach has paid dividends not only for Finmeccanica but also for IHS – while Finmeccanica gains reliable business intelligence, we gain insight from a leading player in the industry. As a business philosophy it’s among the most forward-looking that we’ve seen.”

Along with six other European award winners, Finmeccanica will also be considered as a nominee for the annual “Best of the Best” IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award.

Nominations for the second and final round of 2014 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Awards opened on May 15, 2014. Recipients of this year’s remaining awards – including the “Best of the Best” winner – will be announced in November 2014.
