Saab and Pilatus sign air trainer MoU

28 March 2014

Saab of Sweden has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pilatus to co-operate on the provision of the Swiss aircraft developer's PC-21 platform as the basis for a basic air training solution for the Swedish Air Force.

Sweden has been considering a replacement for its existing SK 60 (Saab 105) basic jet trainer aircraft, which are expected to remain in service only until around 2017. Saab had secured an SEK130 million (USD18.8 million) contract in late 2009 to upgrade the aircraft as an interim measure ahead of a longer-term replacement. The Saab 105 was developed in the 1960s.
