China-based Leap showcased production-ready CAS-H01, a portable miniature search-and-attack unmanned aircraft system (UAS) at the World Defense Show (WDS) 2024 held in Riyadh from 4 to 8 February.

Speaking to Janes, a Leap official said CAS-H01 is a backpackable UAS that can be operated by a single dismounted soldier. The CAS-H01 is capable of carrying out reconnaissance, search, tracking, identification and attack, and supports swarm attacks. Because of its modular design, the complete UAS can be assembled and disassembled in the field, the official said.

One complete CAS-H01 system includes an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and a ground control station (GCS). The UAV is available in two configurations: training and active missile. The portable GCS includes features such as mission planning, remote control, real-time monitoring, communication datalink, and digital mapping.

The CAS-H01 is constructed using polycarbonates, composite materials, and aluminium. It features a tubular structure visibly bifurcated into two compartments. The top compartment is fitted with two co-axially mounted electric motors, each driving a two-blade propeller. Janes assesses that the lower compartment accommodates a battery, sensor payloads, avionics, and a warhead. The tubular structure of the CAS-H01 is also equipped with four collapsible landing supports.
