WB Group has unveiled the latest member in its Warmate family of loitering munitions: the collapsible-winged Warmate TL.

The TL variant, which joins WB Group’s legacy Warmate 1 and 2 models, represents the smallest form factor in the company’s inventory of loitering munitions.

Launched from a man-portable tube launcher, the Warmate TL features the same 1.4 kg high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) and thermobaric warheads as earlier Warmate 1 and 2 models.

Designed to operate at an altitude of 1,640 ft (500 m) above mean sea level, the Warmate TL features a 1.7 m wingspan and total length of 1.1 m. With an all-up weight of 4.5 kg, the airframe has an optimal operational speed of 75 km/h and maximum speed of 120 km/h. The munition, which is also equipped with an electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) payload for target identification, has a mission endurance of 30 minutes.

Loitering munition technology continues to emerge as a preferred solution for small unit teams operating in the ground environment, particularly the urban domain, to conduct intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, as well as target acquisition and engagement of enemy forces.

WB Group America’s chief executive officer Jim Curtin told Jane’s the Warmate TL could be used in a standalone configuration to support dismounted ground units, as well as integrated on board tactical ground vehicles, aircraft, and surface vessels.

Comprising a radio agnostic solution, Warmate TL can be controlled through any open architecture communications network. Curtin said the system can be delivered with a variety of radio transceivers depending upon end-user requirements”.
