USAF, Terma conclude IDIQ for AN/ALQ-213 EW controller

Terma North America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Danish systems and sensors house Terma, has secured a 10-year indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract worth up to USD306 million to provide support to electronic warfare (EW) countermeasures controller technology used by the US Air Force (USAF).

Awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)-Aviation at Warner Robins on 18 December 2020, the enterprise-level agreement covers AN/ALQ-213 Electronic Countermeasures System (ECMS) self-protection hardware, sustainment, and engineering services applicable to the F-16, A-10, and C-130 aircraft operated by the USAF. The IDIQ, concluded using other than full and open competition procedures, will also address the ECMS requirements of international F-16 customers under Foreign Military Sales (FMS).

The AN/ALQ-213 ECMS integrates radar warning, jamming and countermeasures dispensing systems into a single federated EW suite. The system provides threat processing and selection of the optimum threat response techniques (jamming and dispense of appropriate countermeasures) in manual, semi-automatic and automatic modes.

Terma North America operates from two main facilities in Georgia: an innovation centre in Atlanta; and a production/repair facility adjacent to Warner Robins Air Force Base. “We opened our facility in Atlanta, close to Georgia Tech University, in November 2017,” Terma chief executive officer Jes Munk Hansen told Janes. “This will be the focal point for the design changes we are introducing into [the AN/ALQ-213 product] for our US customer.

He continued, “This [IDIQ] represents the largest single contract in Terma’s history, and will allow us to continue to invest in our development of EW controller technology. We plan that Terma North America will double its headcount over the next two years.”
