The United Arab Emirates' Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP) announced at the UMEX tradeshow in Abu Dhabi on 23 February that it was launching an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) competition in collaboration with the Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

Eng. Faiz Saleh Al-Nahdi, CEO of TIP, and Dr Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, executive vice-president at the Khalifa University of Science Technology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the organisation and launch of the competition, with more details to be revealed by the end of 2022.

The competition is part of Tawazun's ongoing collaboration with its strategic partners, including Khalifa University and Abu Dhabi Remote Control Club (ADRCC), to promote autonomous technologies and provide an environment for unmanned systems enthusiasts to grow their skills.

Al-Nahdi also signed another MoU with Jamal Musallam Al Mazrouei, from the ADRCC, for the hosting of performance testing and live trials for the various competition projects, especially those focusing on aviation systems at its club in Abu Dhabi's Al Samha area. The club has 4 kmĀ² of space, in addition to a 300 m runway for UAVs.
