Saab has described its Arexis electronic warfare (EW) suite as being “the perfect fit” for Germany's Eurofighter Elektronischer Kampf (EK) requirement.

Speaking to Janes and other defence media at the company's Stockholm headquarters, EW and Arexis sales director Mikael Corp, said that as the incumbent provider for the EW system for the Luftwaffe's Panavia Tornado Electronic Combat Role (ECR), it is well-placed to do the same for the Eurofighter EK that is set to replace it.

“The Eurofighter has been tasked to take over the electronic warfare missions from the Tornado ECR aircraft. Saab provides electronic warfare equipment for the current fleet of Tornado aircraft, and with Arexis for the Eurofighter ECR the German Air Force will get a full suite of state-of-the-art electronic warfare capabilities. This includes near-instant detection, identification, and verification on most modern threats, as well as very high accuracy direction-finding for all radar emitters,” Corp said. “Arexis can be packaged into many different shapes and forms, while still providing absolute world-leading performance for any mission. It is the perfect fit, and Saab can provide this capability here and now while supporting further development for a long time to come,” he added.

Arexis provides fully hemispherical coverage to support the ingress, strike, and egress of a package of strike aircraft, utilising a very high frequency (VHF)/ultra high frequency (UHF) surveillance and acquisition radar in the L and S bands that incorporates gallium nitride (GaN) active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology.
