Eurofighter sees the Typhoon as “the perfect fit” for Poland as it looks to secure a long-running campaign to sell the multirole combat aircraft to the Eastern European country, the recently installed head of the consortium told Janes and other defence media at the Paris Air Show 2023.

Speaking on 21 June Giancarlo Mezzanato, who became Eurofighter chief in April, said the aircraft's air superiority pedigree makes it ideally suited to Poland's particular requirements for homeland defence following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and that discussions with the country's decision makers have been held.

“I met the delegation from Poland yesterday. We know what their requirements are, and we are ready to support them in those,” Mezzanato said. “It is a perfect fit for the Polish requirement for air superiority. I think for the Eurofighter, Poland is really a good opportunity.”

The multinational Eurofighter consortium of Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom has been courting Poland for a potential Typhoon sale for some years. It made its most recent public offer during the Farnborough Air Show in July 2022, with a Eurofighter spokesperson telling Janes at that time that such a partnership would see Poland gain “full access to [the] aircraft's capabilities, full national sovereignty, and Polish-qualified industrial involvement”.
