Mercury Systems, FDH Aero make acquisitions

Mercury Systems has expanded its defence footprint by acquiring fellow US electronics manufacturer Atlanta Micro for about USD90 million in cash, Mercury announced on 29 November.

Atlanta Micro's products include devices that enable high-speed data processing for electronic warfare, radar, and weapons. Founded in 2011 and based near Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta Micro employs approximately 35 people and expects to generate USD16 million in revenue in 2022.

The news follows Mercury's acquisition of Florida-based avionics business Avalex Technologies in September for USD155 million. The Atlanta Micro acquisition is Mercury's fourth in 12 months and its 15th since its fiscal year 2014.

Separately, US aircraft parts distributor FDH Aero announced on 29 November that it has paid an undisclosed sum to buy Unical Defense, which provides parts for military aircraft.

Founded in 2015, Unical is based near Los Angeles, California, and serves more than 600 US and foreign customers. The Unical acquisition is FDH's eighth since it was purchased by US-based Audax Private Equity in 2017.
