France's Nexter Munitions and Mecar (both subsidiaries of Nexter Group) and Indonesia's PT Pindad signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to Medium Calibre Munitions and Large Calibre Munitions.

According to a press statement by PT Pindad, the MOU covers collaboration on Medium Calibre Munition and Large Calibre Munition products such as 120 mm munitions for main battle tanks (MBTs), 105 mm shells for the Harimau medium tank, 20 mm bullets for the Vector GI-2 automatic canon, and 30 mm ammunition for the Rafale multirole combat aircraft.

In early March, a Nexter Group spokesperson confirmed to Janes that the French company has established a regional hub in Jakarta, Indonesia. This hub will cater to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market. The spokesperson also said that Nexter Group intends to “expand and deepen its partnership with Indonesian defence's key stakeholders, end-users as well as local industrial partners”.

“Nexter and PT Pindad have decided to co-operate in the long term to strengthen and reinforce their existing partnership through an extensive transfer of knowledge, technology, and manufacturing in land defence domain per the [Indonesian] government policy,” the spokesperson added.
