Spanish company TSD showcased its Ibero family of armoured vehicles for the first time in public at the International Defence and Security Fair (FEINDEF) held in Madrid from 3 to 5 November.

A company executive told Janes that the Ibero made its debut in November 2020 when it was unveiled during an online event, as the Covid-19 pandemic precluded a traditional public presentation.

All Ibero vehicles are 4×4 and based on a Daimler FGA chassis derived from that of the Mercedes Unimog series of trucks.

Three variants of the Ibero have been developed. The LTV20 is the lightest, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 5 tonnes, room for up to eight personnel, and FB6/FB7 armour providing all-round protection against 7.62×51 mm bullets. The SMV20 has a GVW of 9.5 tonnes, can carry up to 12 personnel, and features NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4569 level 1 protection for the occupants. The HTV21 unveiled in August has a GVW of 14.5 tonnes, can accommodate up to 14 personnel, and offers STANAG 4569 level 1 or 2 all-round protection, as well as level 2a/2b against mines.

Janes has learned that four examples of the LTV20 have been exported to an African country in April for use by its security forces. Another African country has bought six examples of the HTV21 for its gendarmerie, all of which were delivered in August.

The SMV20 on show at FEINDEF is being worked on and has yet to be sold, although the same executive said there are several prospective buyers.
