Australian Missile Corporation secures new partnerships

The newly established Australian Missile Corporation (AMC) has agreed to co-operate with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and two local firms in developing guided weapons, AMC announced on 3 June.

AMC, which was established in May by Australian munitions firm NIOA to facilitate collaboration on meeting Australian missile requirements, said the new arrangements will support the Australian government's vision of establishing a “sovereign guided weapons enterprise” within the country.

AMC said its co-operation with IAI will “provide leading innovative local solutions for the benefit of Australian industries”. AMC added that it had also entered into collaborative agreements with Australian composite specialist Quickstep and Black Sky Aerospace, a local propellant manufacturer. Details about the agreements were not disclosed.

Queensland-based NIOA announced the establishment of AMC on 24 May. It said the new corporation will focus on facilitating co-operation in missile development and production between industry, academia, and government.

NIOA told Janes in a statement on 25 May, “NIOA has been overwhelmed by the amount of interest from businesses of all sizes in the short time since the AMC was announced. Small, medium, and large companies, academia and state governments have expressed interest in joining the enterprise.” The statement added, “AMC will be available for all guided weapons original equipment manufacturers as a pre-positioned and ready Australian capability, growing its capability and expertise through a focused programme of support and workshare.”
