Lt Col Giles Ebbutt MA RM (retd)
Giles was educated at Magdalen College School and Merton College, Oxford. He joined the Royal Marines in 1971 and his early service was in 45 Commando RM, including Arctic Warfare training in Norway.

Having specialized as a Signals Officer in 1978, he went on to hold a variety of communications appointments during his military career, including that of communications staff officer of 3 Commando Brigade and command of both 3 Commando Brigade Headquarters and Signal Squadron and the Royal Marines Signal Training Wing, as well as an exchange posting with the Army at the Royal School of Signals, Blandford. He attended the Army Staff College at Camberley in 1985-86, and subsequent appointments, outside communications, included Fleet Amphibious Intelligence officer on the staff of Commander-in-Chief Fleet and within the Directorate of Naval Operations in the Ministry of Defence. In late 1996 he commanded the multi-national training team in the Baltic States as part of the Baltic Battalion project.

Giles Ebbutt retired from the Royal Marines in 1999 and very soon after was appointed editor of Jane's C4I Systems (now part of Jane's C4ISR & Mission Systems). More recently, in October 2006, he was also appointed editor of Jane's Simulation and Training Systems.

He is a regular contributor to Jane's Defence Weekly and Jane's International Defence Review, and was co-editor of Jane's World Armies from 2005 to 2006. Giles is married with two daughters and currently lives outside Plymouth.

Michael J. Gething, AMRAeS, MCIJ
Michael has been an aviation and defense journalist and editor since 1973, when he joined the staff of the Royal Aeronautical Society's publication, Aerospace. Prior to that, he had worked as an Assistant Scientific Officer at the Defence Operational Analysis Establishment at West Byfleet (since absorbed by DSTL).

In October 1976, Michael moved to DEFENCE magazine where he spent 17 years, eight of them as editor, before joining IHS Jane's in December 1993 to edit Jane's Defence Systems Modernisation. In 1997, this evolved into Jane's Defence Upgrades. With the incorporation of Jane's Defence Upgrades into Jane's International Defence Review in June 2003 he became the magazine's upgrades editor. Since the reorganization of the editorial department, he works through the Air Desk, principally on Jane's Electro-Optic Systems (now part of Jane's C4ISR & Mission Systems).

Between 1972 and 1979, Michael produced the aircraft modeling and aviation interest pages for Air Cadet News, the newspaper of the Air Training Corps, in which he served as a Flying Officer in the Training Branch of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (1972-1986). Over the years, he has contributed to many magazines, including AIR International, Air Pictorial and Armada International. He was also the last editor of the Airfix Magazine in 1993. Together with Günter Endres, he has produced three editions of Jane's Aircraft Recognition Guide (the most recent appearing in July 2007), and among his other solo published works are Sky Guardians – the Air Defence of Great Britain, Air Power 2000 and F-15 Eagle.

An associate member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a member of the Chartered Institute of Journalists, Michael also belongs to Air-Britain (Historians) and the Air Power Association. When time allows, he still enjoys building scale model aircraft. He is married with a son (in the RAF) and a daughter and lives in Sussex, where he serves as vice chairman of the Sussex Weald Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Martin Streetly
Martin is a full-time defense electronics author and journalist who specializes in the history, technology and application of Electronic Warfare (EW). He was editor of both Jane's Radar & Electronic Warfare Systems and Jane's Electronic Mission Aircraft and is now a co-editor of the Air, Land, Sea and Joint & Common Equipment editions of Jane's C4ISR & Mission Systems.

Over the past twenty-four years, Martin has been a regular contributor to a range of international defense publications that has included Jane's Defence Weekly,Jane's International Defence Review, the Journal of Electronic Defense (acting as the magazine's European Editor for 12 years up to March 2001), The Knowles Report, Microwave Journal, Flight International, Naval Forces, Military Simulation & Training and the NAVINT naval intelligence newsletter. Over the last twenty years he has appeared on the UK's Channel 4 news program, the BBC and the Discovery Channel. During the 1991 Gulf War, he worked with the UK's Independent Television News Ltd and a range of international newspapers (including the New York Times and the Jerusalem Post) and has been invited to lecture on EW technology by industry, NATO, the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Association of Old Crows.

Of these, Confound & Destroy is considered by many as being the definitive study of the birth of airborne EW within the UK's Royal Air Force, while over 5,000 copies of the two editions of World Electronic Warfare Aircraft have been sold worldwide.

John Williamson
John Williamson was born in June 1949. Educated at City of Leicester Boys' Grammar School and Bradford University, he graduated with a degree in History, Philosophy and Literature. He went on to work for GEC-Marconi Electronics as a technical author, later becoming press officer.

Between 1977 and 1980 he worked as the European editor of Telecommunications, Microwave Journal, Journal of Electronic Defense and Information Technology News.

He moved on to become the editor of Communications Engineering International, working there between 1980 and 1984, before becoming the editor of Jane's Military Communications (now part of Jane's C4ISR & Mission Systems) in 1984. His other responsibilities have included being editor of the weekly Telephony magazine, Publisher of Telephony's Communications Newsletter and senior technology editor of Global Telephony.

Edward Downs
Edward is a former Royal Air Force pilot, retiring from the Service in 1997 after tours of duty as a frontline Tornado GR1 pilot, (31 Squadron, RAF Bruggen), a Qualified Weapons Instructor (Tornado Weapons Conversion Unit, RAF Honington) and finally as an operational test pilot at the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), Boscombe Down. While at Boscombe Down, he was involved in weapons and Electro-Optic systems development for RAF ground attack aircraft, including the Tornado GR4, Harrier GR7 and Jaguar GR3.

Currently a civilian pilot with a UK international airline, a Night Electro-Optic flight instructor and director of an aerosystems consultancy specializing in avionic systems test and evaluation, including the integration of Aviator's Night Vision Imaging System (ANVIS) and electro-optic systems into fixed- and rotary-wing platforms, Edward has accumulated over 3,000 hours in military aircraft and 9,000 commercial hours flying a number of aircraft, including the Airbus A340-300 and -600.
