Egyptian opposition rejects dialogue as violence continues

Egyptian opposition parties on 28 January rejected President Mohamed Morsi's call for a national dialogue on the new crisis currently gripping the country.

"The dialogue to which the president invited us is to do with form and not content," Mohamed ElBaradei, a leading member of the National Salvation Front (NSF), told reporters on 28 January in response to Morsi's invitations to all political factions to convene at the presidential palace in the afternoon for an emergency summit. "We support any dialogue if it has a clear agenda that can shepherd the nation to the shores of safety," ElBaradei continued, clearly suggesting that this is not the aim of Morsi's agenda.
