BAE Systems has strengthened its information management and consultancy operations in the Asia-Pacific region by merging its Australian-run business, Stratsec, into the corporation's main cyber-security subsidiary, Detica.
A statement by BAE Systems Australia on 3 December said the move reflects a requirement to offer customers a global response to cyber-related threats. A spokeswoman from BAE Systems Australia told IHS Jane's that the move will result in the creation of "50 or more" additional cyber-security positions within the corporation's Asia-Pacific operations.
BAE Systems acquired Canberra-based Stratsec, which also operates offices in Singapore and Malaysia, in January 2011 for AUD24 million (USD25 million).
The acquisition was followed a few months later by BAE Systems' EUR217 million (USD281 million) purchase of Norkom, a counter-fraud company based in Ireland that has also has a presence in Australia and has been integrated into Detica, which itself was acquired by BAE Systems in 2008 for USD985 million.
Richard Watson, BAE Systems Detica's Asia Pacific and Middle East Managing Director, said of Stratsec's integration into Detica: "Cyber security is a global problem, which requires a global response. As such, we have realigned our business to reflect this.
