Military exercises commence in Iran
11/13/2012
The semi-official Fars News Agency (FNA) reported that units from the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF), the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Army Ground Force, Navy, and Basij forces (volunteers) are participating in the manoeuvres.
The drills will take place in an area of more than 850,000 km² and are scheduled to last for four days. Lieutenant Commander Shahrokh Shahram told FNA on 11 November that the participants will carry out exercises defending "hypothetical sensitive sites". Speaking to Iran's English-language Press TV subsequently on 12 November, he added that the exercises "convey a message of peace and security to regional countries" while sending "a strong warning to those threatening Iran".
