ReVISOR battlefield radar enters production

The Czech Ministry of Defence has become the launch customer for RETIA's new ReVISOR lightweight X-band radar.

RETIA won its first contract for its newly developed light, mobile, low-cost two-dimensional (2-D) X-band short-range battlefield airspace surveillance radar: the ReVISOR.

Under the contract, the first of four ReVISOR 2-D short-range battlefield surveillance radars is due to be delivered in April 2014, with the full order - including associated communications, command, and control modules - to be completed by the end of November 2015.

All of the mobile radars are to be issued to the 25th Anti-aircraft Missile Brigade and used to cue individual launchers within Saab RBS-70 short-range air defence missile-equipped batteries. As the RBS-70 is laser-guided, the 2-D (range and azimuth) cuing is deemed sufficient for now, but RETIA has also announced it can offer a 3-D version.

Although it has not been officially confirmed, IHS Jane's believes that the Czech Republic also plans to use the new 2-D radars with the RBS-70NGs that were selected as a follow-on purchase by senior officers late last year.
