US Navy reveals new damage estimate for USS Miami

Repairing the fire-damaged USS Miami (SSN 755) will cost about USD450 million, US Navy officials said in a 22 August announcement.
That figure, an upward revision from a USD400 million preliminary estimate in July, includes "10 per cent variability due to the unique nature of the repair and the cost impacts of shifting the planned maintenance availabilities of other ships and submarines", the navy said.
The service stressed that it is committed to delivering the Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine back to the fleet with no operational limitations. Work is expected to be completed by the end of April 2015.
