India, Russia sign JV on Smerch MRLs

India and Russia have agreed to form an industrial joint venture (JV) to manufacture versions of the Russian-designed 300 mm Smerch multiple rocket launcher (MRL) in India, it was announced on 28 August.
The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement that the JV will be formed by the state-owned Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and a Russian partnership between export agency Rosoboronexport and the developer of the Smerch MRL system, the State Scientific Industrial Enterprise (SPLAV).
