Libya's interim leadership elects new prime minister
11/1/2011
El-Keib, an electrical engineer by training and previously a professor at the University of Tripoli, won 26 of the 51 votes available, defeating four other candidates. As he promised, former Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril did not run for the post and has therefore fulfilled his pledge to stand down once the 'liberation' of the country had been confirmed.
Speaking after his election, El Keib said: "This transition period has its own challenges. One thing we will be doing is working very closely with the TNC and listening to the Libyan people."
