Use special pay in special way argues the Met's 'chief of grief'

SPECIAL priority payments should be scrapped as they are universally hated, the Met's human resources 'chief of grief' has told UK personnel experts.

Martin Tiplady, the force's director of HR, said the cash payments, which range from £500 to £5,000 per officer, were 'divisive' and 'bureaucratic'.

He told delegates at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's police forum: 'I hate SPPs, you hate SPPs, the [police] federation hates SPPs, 60 per cent of our cops hate SPPs, but we still have them.'
