Ukraine makes airports match-fit for Euro 2012

Airport expansion projects to enable Ukraine to handle expected demand during the Euro 2012 football tournament were summarised in October at a seminar in London.

Speaking at the event organised by UK Trade & Investment, Valeriy Zhaldak, deputy head of the Ukrainian government's organising committee for Euro 2012, indicated that most projects are on course for completion by the scheduled deadline of 31 December 2011.

At Boryspil International Airport – which serves the capital, Kiev – work on building connecting infrastructure to Terminal B – which handles international traffic – is due for completion by the end of 2009.

Construction of the new Terminal D began in March 2008. The 44.9 ha terminal is planned to accommodate up to 1,500 passengers per hour and is expected to be completed by April 2010 at an approximate cost of UAH1.66 billion (USD205 million).
