Treaty could give police more power to tackle child sex predators
3/16/2010
POLICE officers could be better placed to deal with child sex predators if the government ratifies a treaty which could strengthen the fight against these crimes.
The treaty promotes a public-private sector partnership and specifically targets people using the internet to 'groom' children.
The Council of Europe said if the UK government makes it part of national law, the police service would benefit from better co-ordination with officials from banking, tourism and the IT sectors to improve the detection of child sex predators.
