The rejection by Abhisit followed a series of demonstrations during the weekend of 12 to 14 March that saw tens of thousands of protesters march through Bangkok. The protesters were led by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), an opposition group that supports Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand's former prime minister ousted in a 2006 coup.
