Serbia on course for professional military by 2011

Serbia will have fully professionalised its armed forces by 2011, Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac said on 5 January.
The goal is the top priority of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and will see mandatory military service for Serbian citizens abolished, Sutanovac told the website of Serbian media outlet Radio B92.
Serbia's defence reform plans are largely based on interoperability with other European states. The country is a member of NATO's Partnership for Peace programme, but has ruled out full membership of the alliance.
