Philippines army kills key ASG rebels
2/23/2010
On 21 February, key Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) leader Albader Parad was killed along with five other militants on Jolo Island in Sulu province.
A marine special operations platoon raided the ASG camp following a "very strong intelligence report" that Albader Parad and Umbra Abu Jumdail (alias Dr Abu Pula) were there, according to Lieutenant-Geneneral Benjamin Dolorfino, head of the military's Western Mindanao Command.
According to the local Inquirer newspaper, Jumdail's younger brother, Abdulhan Jumdail, was among the six militants killed. The others were identified as Simal Abting, Omar Umbah, Hamilton Sadjael and Udin Serail.
Albader Parad was believed by the Philippine military to have played a major role in the kidnapping of three International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) aid workers in January 2009.
