Nimrod MRA.4 maritime aircraft ready for crew training

3/15/2010
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has declared the Nimrod MRA.4 maritime patrol aircraft ready to commence aircrew training following the completion of type acceptance tests.
Manufacturer BAE Systems made the announcement on 11 March, the day after the first production aircraft designated PA04 was handed over to the Royal Air Force (RAF).
Group Captain Jerry Kessell, the MoD's Head of Underwater Capability, formally accepted the aircraft at BAE Systems' Woodford site on 10 March. The aircraft has now moved from Woodford to BAE Systems' Warton site, where RAF aircrew will be trained under what is termed the Transition Programme.
PAO4 will transfer to the aircraft's future main operating base at RAF Kinloss towards the end of the third quarter of this year.
On 8 March, the MRA.4 programme achieved a further milestone with the first flight of the second production aircraft, PA05.
