New Zealand increases defence budget

The New Zealand government has announced a Fiscal Year 2009-10 (FY09-10) defence budget of NZD2.82 billion (USD1.8 billion): a rise of 13 per cent.
Budget documents published by the government on 29 May show that a total of NZD678 million has been allocated to the FY09-10 capital expenditure, a jump of more than 70 per cent against the estimated acquisition spending in FY08-09 (NZD388 million).
The army, navy and air force has been earmarked NZD791 million, NZD634 million and NZD612 million respectively.
