New Middle East peace talks raise scepticism

The Middle East peace talks in the United States will be opened on 2 September by President Barack Obama. Israeli Prime Minster Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will also be present, at least for a symbolic photo opportunity and the early negotiations. Speaking on 22 August, Netanyahu admitted there were widespread doubts that the talks would succeed.
