Mobile in Mumbai
By Jane's

The 26-29 November attack on Mumbai continues to be studied for possible trends in terrorist operations. The attackers' exploitation of modern technology has been flagged as a possible sign of things to come, but with mobile telephones, global positioning systems (GPS) and satellite imagery arguably already well established as terrorist tools, Mumbai may only have highlighted the dangers of staying in touch.
The Mumbai attackers' use of hand-held gadgetry is detailed in a dossier of evidence put together by Indian investigators. The technical and material intelligence detailed in the dossier gives considerable weight to the assertion that the attack was launched from Pakistan. It also sheds light on whether it was an explicitly suicidal assault and if the planners deliberately left a trail leading back to Pakistan in the hope of starting a war with India. 140 of 2,366 words
