IPCC probing police car crash that killed two pedestrians
By Max Blain
6/8/2010
The two men were killed after being involved in a collision with a car driven by Bedfordshire Police officers responding to an emergency call just after 11.50pm on Friday, 4 June.
The force said the marked patrol car, driven by two male officers based at Luton, had first been in collision with another car before veering off the road, colliding with the two men and crashing into a house.
Neither of the officers was injured although the driver of the other car was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The force said it is still trying to identify the men, believed to be foreign nationals in their 20s and 30s, and contact their families.
Deborah Glass, deputy chair of the IPCC, said: 'We will be conducting a rigorous investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, including whether or not the police car's lights and sirens were activated, and our investigators continue to secure evidence in relation to the incident.'
