Inspectors blast force for 'dangerous' prison cells

CAMBRIDGESHIRE Constabulary has been heavily criticised by prisons and police inspectors for the 'indefensible' state of its prison cells.

The prisons and police inspectorates concluded that the majority of the force's eight cells should be closed because of safety concerns. However, they said senior officers had been 'knowingly' operating the cells despite the risk for 'at least a year'. They added: 'This culture and the working practices that had flowed from it were wholly indefensible.'
