8/18/2010
The radical Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Baasyir, 72, has been arrested under Indonesian anti-terrorism laws on suspicion of having supported and financed Al-Qaeda in Aceh. Chief of Java police Inspector General Edward Aritonang said during a press conference on 9 August that Baasyir played a "key role" in appointing religious teachers to provide spiritual guidance for the group. Baasyir has denied the accusations.
