Gunfights in Rio greet new police chief

At least one victim was reported from a stray bullet as gunfights occurred between police and drug traffickers in the favelas (shanty towns) of Cidade de Deus, Zona Oeste and Leme, among others. Police patrols in the affected areas were intensified, with further exchanges subsequently taking place in Penha and between police and traffickers from the Parque Alegria favela in the port zone.
