French Army places major FELIN order
By Andrew White
11/25/2009
The French Direction Générale de L'armement defence procurement agencies has contracted Sagem to supply an additional 16,454 FELIN (Fantassins à Équipements et Liaisons Intégrés) ensembles, comprising the bulk of the French Army's soldier modernisation programme.
Signed on 20 November, the contract means the French Army will have ordered a total of 22,588 FELIN systems, taking the total contract value for the programme up to around EUR1 billion (USD1.49 billion).
According to the DGA, the first regiment will be equipped with 1,009 FELIN ensembles during the first quarter of 2010, with a further three regiments being supplied with the equipment in the same year. The French army then anticipates receiving the entire stock of systems by 2015, although the DGA has not yet confirmed which regiments will receive the ensembles.
