Airborne Systems picked for French parachute supply
By Andrew White
1/22/2010
The French Army has selected Airborne Systems to manufacture and deliver its replacement personnel parachute system - the Ensemble de Parachutage du Combattant (EPC).
According to Airborne Systems, the Direction générale de l'armement (DGA) has ordered a total package of 23,000 main parachutes, reserves, assisted load carrying equipment and training systems that will be delivered over an unspecified number of years. Neither the DGA nor Airborne Systems would comment on a contract value, although sources told Jane's it was worth around GBP50 million (USD80 million).
The new EPC parachute will replace the current Equipement Parachutiste Individuele parachute, which has been in service for more than 20 years.
