  • InfoComm International is the leading nonprofit association serving the professional AV communications industry worldwide. Founded in 1939, InfoComm uses tradeshows, education, certification, government relations, outreach and information services to promote the industry and enhance members’ ability to conduct business successfully and competently.

The InfoComm Board of Directors established a standards committee in 2006 to start working on performance standards. The organization published its first standard in 2009. Currently InfoComm offers four ANSI-approved standards, as well as three additional publications, all of which are included in the IHS InfoComm collection.

InfoComm standards are used in the AV industry by:

    • Installers
    • Designers
    • Technology Managers
    • Project managers
    • IT professionals

The benefits of a subscription to InfoComm standards through IHS can include:

    • Reducing risks associated with noncompliance, including loss of sales and market share
    • Improving customer service through higher productivity and better collaboration
    • Helping achieve higher quality by leveraging consistent standards to meet customer and market requirements
    • Eliminating hidden costs of poor standards management such as the risk of using outdated standards or copyright abuse
    • Ensuring adoption across your user base with a user-friendly online tool, backed by world-class customer support and service
    • Increasing procurement efficiencies with one relationship, one negotiation and one transaction for all your standards management needs
  • The IHS InfoComm documents collection includes four ANSI-approved standards, as well as three additional publications:

    • ANSI/INFOCOMM 1M: 2009 – Audio Coverage Uniformity in Enclosed Listener Areas
One of the fundamental goals of sound system performance for both speech reinforcement and program audio is the delivery of consistent coverage in the listening area. A well-executed audio system design is one that allows all listeners to hear the system at approximately the same sound pressure level throughout the desired frequency spectrum range, no matter where positioned in the designated listening area. This standard provides a procedure to measure this spatial coverage and criteria for use in the design and commissioning of audio systems.
    • ANSI/INFOCOMM 2M: 2010 – Standard Guide for Audiovisual Systems Design and Coordination Processes
The purpose of this standard is to provide a description of the methods, procedures, tasks and deliverables typically recommended or applied by industry professionals in medium- to large-scale commercial audiovisual systems design and integration projects. It outlines a consistent set of the standard tasks, responsibilities and deliverables required for professional audiovisual systems design and construction. The intention of the structure outlined in this standard is to enable clients and other design and construction team members to assess confidently whether responsible parties are providing the expected services.
    • ANSI/INFOCOMM 3M: 2011 – Projected Image System Contrast Ratio
This standard provides metrics for measurement and requirements for minimum contrast ratios for rear and front projection audiovisual projected image systems. It applies to both permanent and temporary installations and defines projected image system contrast ratio and its measurement. This standard provides important metrics for evaluating, planning and designing projected image system installations, setting minimum contrast ratios and a procedure for measuring the contrast ratio provided by the system.
    • ANSI/INFOCOMM 4: 2012 – Audiovisual Systems Energy Management
This standard defines and prescribes processes and requirements for ongoing power-consumption management of the audiovisual system. The standard identifies requirements for the control and continuous monitoring of electrical power for audiovisual systems, whereby power is conserved whenever possible and components operate at the lowest power-consuming state possible without compromise to the system’s performance. Audiovisual systems in conformance with the standard will meet the defined requirements for automation, measurement, analysis and training.
    • INFCOMM Design Guidelines for ACU
These design guidelines describe the processes involved in designing loudspeaker systems to the requirements outlined in ANSI/INFOCOMM 1M-2009, Audio Coverage Uniformity (ACU) in Enclosed Listener Areas. It is intended to help designers understand the complexities of: 1. Identifying the intended use of the space and system(s); 2. Identifying the listener area(s); 3. Loudspeaker selection, placement, and aiming; 4. Modeling the design; and, 5. Documenting the listening area and measurement locations. The book should be used in conjunction with the standard ANSI/INFOCOMM 1M-2009, Audio Coverage Uniformity in Enclosed Listener Areas.
    • INFOCOMM ACU Field Guide
The ACU Field Guide is designed for audio technicians and engineers tasked with ensuring that rooms or venues with sound systems conform to the ANSI/INFOCOMM 1M-2009 Audio Coverage Uniformity in Enclosed Listener Areas performance standard. By following the steps in the guide, personnel will be able to take an ACU measurement and present their findings in the form of a test report from their company. They will have evidence that the equipment they are measuring has been correctly designed, installed and adjusted. The ACU measurement is a way of making sure that everyone in a room is hearing the same audio level.
    • INFOCOMM AV Implementation Handbook
InfoComm's AV Implementation Handbook is designed to be used in conjunction with ANSI/INFOCOMM 2M, Standard Guide for Audiovisual Systems Design and Coordination Processes. The Handbook clarified the tasks on the coordination processes checklist and provides unique insights from industry experts to help orient AV professionals, architects, engineers and clients to the issues that influence AV design.
