WASHINGTON D.C. (May 13, 2008) -- Jane’s Information Group is proud to announce its new U.S.-based Maritime Reporter Casandra Newell, who joins Jane’s from a career in the U.S. Navy and governmental departments. Casandra will write primarily for Jane's Navy International, but also for Jane’s Defence Weekly and International Defence Review.
Jon Rosamond, Editor, Jane's Navy International, commented: " Casandra has the perfect blend of service experience, including deployment on board the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, and educational qualifications to make her a valuable addition to Jane's editorial ranks".
Newell will cover events such as developments in the Ford-class aircraft carrier, Littoral Combat Ships and Virginia-class submarines, and has already been dispatched to cover the U.S. Navy’s announcement of the contractor for the new Board Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) unmanned autonomous vehicle (UAV) program.
During her time on active duty as a Mass Communication Specialist in the U.S. Navy, Newell wrote stories for military and civilian news and media outlets worldwide. Her experience includes photojournalism and newspaper layout.
Newell has also covered world events for the Navy including the rebuilding of New Orleans. She has worked extensively with high-profile personalities and covered many interesting and unusual subjects which have found her out in the field training with divers one day or covering top guns from the decks of a U.S. aircraft carrier the next.
Newell has a great interest in international relations, politics, economics and public relations. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Eastern Studies which involved examining geopolitical issues and studying regional languages, of which she chose to focus on Hebrew. She has also studied Constitutional law and is currently studying conflict analysis.
