Memorial day 'treasures and celebrates valour' of fallen officers

By Max Blain

29 September 2009

NEARLY 2,000 police officers and bereaved family members attended St David's Hall in Cardiff on 27 September for the sixth National Police Memorial Day service.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson joined Barbara Wilding, chief constable of South Wales Police, and Ian Johnston, president of the Superintendents' Association, who both gave readings during the service.

The family of murdered Police Service of Northern Ireland Constable Stephen Carroll were at the church along with friends and relatives of the 17 other police officers who died on duty in the past 12 months.
