League goal to reduce match day officers

MATCH day commanders are occasionally exaggerating the number of officers required to police football matches, MPs have heard.
Andy Williamson, chief operating officer of the Football League, told the Home Affairs Select Committee that there were cases where senior officers were taking a 'safe view' and using more officers than football clubs felt were necessary.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mr Williamson said: 'There are isolated cases where sometimes clubs have difficulty in agreeing what levels of policing are appropriate with local police forces.'
