Poland announces new army chief
By Grzegorz Holdanowicz
15 September 2009
Major General Tadeusz Buk will be appointed as the next commander of Poland's Land Forces on 15 September.
The appointment was announced by President Lech Kaczynski and is awaiting the agreement of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The previous occupant of the post, Lieutenant General Waldemar Skrzypczak, resigned on 20 August after being accused by Defence Minister Bogdan Klich and other politicians of undermining "the civilian control of the armed forces".
