Iran commissions further midget submarines

03 June 2009
The Iranian Navy commissioned three more indigenously built midget submarines into its fleet at a ceremony in Bandar Abbas on 1 June, according to state-run media.
The new craft are believed to be the fourth, fifth and sixth units in the Qadir-class (Yono/IS 120) procurement programme, which first came to light in the West in February 2004.
Jane's has previously reported the launch of the fourth and fifth boats in November 2007 and November 2008 respectively. A class of up to 10 is anticipated.
