Paris Air Show: IAI unveils new multimission radar

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Elta Systems has unveiled a new artillery locating and air-defence radar — the EL/M-2084 Multi-Mission Radar (MMR).
The EL/M-2084 is an active scanning phased array radar that leverages off the same technology (although with different frequencies) as the Elta EL/M-2080 Green Pine early-warning and fire-control radar — the dedicated multimode solid-state phased array radar for Israel's anti-ballistic missile Arrow Weapon System.
Designed to be part of a "multiple solution", the EL/M-2084 is a high-accuracy medium-/long-range transportable radar system that can detect a "bank of targets with low RCS — including unmanned aerial vehicles, rockets, artillery shells and unpowered manned threats such as hang gliders — even in the presence of ground clutter and electromagnetic interference", Baruch Reshef, deputy director, Marketing and Sales Division, Elta Systems told Jane's.
"For ballistic targets, the radar quickly detects and pinpoints the location of adversary weapons and calculates the anticipated impact points," he added.
"The EL/M-2084 is also designed to support missile-anti-missile weapon systems for Katyusha-type threat interception. Its operating regime will be similar to the Green Pine radar of the Arrow Weapon System. Its tasks will include detection and tracking of incoming threats, and guiding the outgoing countermeasure to meet the threats and destroy them," Reshef said.
