Eurofighter's Phase One Enhancements pass flight-test milestone

By Gareth Jennings

03 June 2009

Eurofighter flew the first Phase One Enhancements (P1E) product on a Typhoon Tranche 2 aircraft on 28 May, marking a further development in the P1E flight-test programme the company has announced.

According to Eurofighter, the flight-test of the German-owned Initial Production Aircraft (IPA) 7 confirmed the functionality of the Missile Approach Warner System (MAWS) before a dedicated trials campaign to be carried out over the North Sea in early September.

The first series of P1E flight-tests will focus on the aeromechanical aspects of the new stores to be integrated into the P1E Capability Package and will be carried out by IPA 2 (Italy), 4 (Spain) and 1 (UK). These are all Tranche 1 aircraft.
