Sections
Content Structure
This title contains country by country information on topography, ports, charts, nautical publications and climate before continuing with a précis on amphibious aspirations and special forces and ending with comments on known maritime disputes and threats likely to involve amphibious operations.
This overview is then followed by further sections describing the country’s special and amphibious forces, coastal defence forces (land and sea) and continues onto the main Sea Lift section which, apart from tabulating in detail all amphibious vessels and craft, includes special forces craft and, where relevant, those operated by customs, maritime police and coastguards. Maritime air support, air defence, armour and artillery (including heavy support, antitank weapons and equipment known to be used by special forces) logistic support are next and, finally, each country’s entry ends with a section listing useful contacts.
Not every country has information under all headings because some may only have a modest capability of, for instance, a coastal defence force plus a few amphibious warfare vessels and no amphibious-trained troops.
Non-amphibious ships, weapons, equipment and vehicles are not described in detail since the aim of Jane's Amphibious and Special Forces is to give the reader an easily assimilated guide to the operational capability of the country in question as far as amphibious and special Operations are concerned. Finite details of all ships and equipment will be found in the relevant Jane's publications, which are listed in the Author’s notes. Ships displacement’s, where noted, are those at full load, war complement.
Structure
This publication contains the amphibious and special forces capabilities for each country. These main sections are further divided into subsections which are detailed below;
