Description
Sea Tiger is a shipborne S-band combined surveillance radar that is optimised for the detection and tracking of missile threats, with a particular emphasis on sea-skimming anti-ship weapons. It is designed to perform the following functions in a very severe clutter and jamming environment: air surveillancesurface surveillanceanti-missile surveillancetarget designation for weapon systems (guns, missiles).Visibility in clutter is achieved through the use of complementary techniques such as circular polarisation, pulse compression, Doppler filtering and an anti-clutter reception chain. A typical Sea Tiger installation comprises:a transmitter with coherent amplifier chain emitting frequency-modulated pulses (pulse compression) over a wide frequency range a receiver with multiple reception chains: Moving Target Indicator (MTI), lin/log, constant false alarm rate. The MTI is a digital linear device whose characteristics, associated with the stability of the amplifier chain, make it possible to detect a missile in the most severe clutter environment a roll-stabilised antenna with integrated identification friend-or-foe subsystem.Thales has also developed a Mk 2 version of Sea Tiger (French Navy designation DRBV 15C) that is fitted with a low sidelobe planar antenna to improve the equipment's resistance to jamming.
